    Effective: January 1, 2014
  • The First Niagara Financial Group, Inc. (together with all subsidiaries and affiliates, “First Niagara” or “we”) website offers you the opportunity to view your account overview, in addition to providing general information about First Niagara’s products and services. This Online Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) covers First Niagara’s many online consumer services, including the First Niagara website and First Niagara mobile banking applications. These online services may collect, use and share information from or about its users. By using this website, you agree to the terms and conditions contained within this Policy.

First Niagara uses trusted third-party content and service providers to enhance our customers’ online experiences. As such, First Niagara may provide links to websites that are owned or operated by other companies (“third-party websites”). The enhancements offered to you by these providers and third-party websites include surveys, calculators, forms and other online tools and applications.

When you click on an online link and visit a third-party website, you will be subject to that website’s privacy and security practices, which may differ from First Niagara’s. You should familiarize yourself with the privacy statement, terms of use and security practices of the linked third-party website before providing any information.

    Information We Collect

First Niagara collects personally identifiable information about you, such as your name, email address, mailing address, phone number and/or Social Security number during your session if you choose to provide it.

When you visit or use First Niagara’s online services, we may collect information about your online session, such as the pages you visit, the browser or device you are using to access our website and/or any information you provide voluntarily (i.e., surveys and elective location information). In addition, First Niagara’s online services do not collect personally identifiable information about you from the device you use to access our website.

How We Collect and Use Information

First Niagara does not use cookies to collect personally identifiable information (i.e., your name, Social Security number, address, etc.) without your consent. The page on the website which utilizes cookies is the Online Banking login page, and this functionality is activated only by user request. Other instances of cookies on the website relate to browser activity, which enables First Niagara to measure Web traffic.

”Cookies” are small amounts of data a website can send to a visitor’s Web browser while the user is using that site. Every time the user loads the website, the browser sends cookies back to the server to notify the website of the user's previous activity. Most Web browsers allow you to adjust your browser settings to decline or delete cookies, but doing so may negatively impact your online experience. For example, you may have to identify yourself more frequently on applications such as online banking because enabling cookies is critical to functionality.

    Other Forms of Collecting Information

    Online Surveys and Forms
Information you provide while completing online surveys and forms on our website may also be collected and stored. This information is used to better serve you, respond to your inquiries and provide enhanced products and services. The data you submit from the website on both surveys and forms is encrypted to safeguard your personally identifiable information.

    Advertising
Through First Niagara’s website and partnerships with third-party sites, we may monitor and record a user’s “click through” rate. We may also track your activities on third-party websites in order to better understand your product and service preferences. This enables us to provide advertisements and offers that First Niagara thinks would be relevant to you.

    Email
Communications sent to First Niagara via email are retained for quality assurance purposes. It is important to remember that regular (nonencrypted) email is not secure. If you are sending us any personally identifiable information (i.e., personal or account-related information), please only do so by the following methods: using our secure email function within Online Banking, contacting our Customer Service Center at 1-800-421-0004, or by visiting your local branch.

    Social Media
First Niagara may use social media sites to promote products and services, communicate community involvement and support opportunities and respond to customer service inquiries. Users should be aware that information sent to First Niagara through these platforms is publicly visible to all consumers of social sites. Users should never provide personally identifiable information through these social sites and are encouraged to use one of the methods outlined above to address account-related inquiries and/or voice concerns or issues.

    How We Share Information

Please refer to First Niagara’s Privacy Notice for additional clarification regarding how information is shared within the First Niagara corporate family.

    How We Safeguard Information

Information collected during your use of First Niagara online consumer services, including the First Niagara website and First Niagara mobile banking applications, is transmitted securely using encryption technology. Encryption is a way in which First Niagara can protect confidential, proprietary and/or sensitive information by converting it into a coded, unreadable format. Encrypted email can be transformed back into readable form only by the intended message recipient.
