How do I know if my card was affected?Reports from Target indicate customers making an in-store purchase with their debit or credit card at one of their locations between November 27 and December 15, 2013 may have been affected.
Do I need to contact the Bank to obtain a new card?No. First Niagara Bank is working with Target and MasterCard to identify which customer cards may have been compromised. To help protect our customers now and in the future, First Niagara will automatically mail new replacement cards to those affected by this incident.
If I was affected, what do I need to do as a result?If you shopped at Target during the dates in question, watch your mail for a new First Niagara Bank debit or credit card. Be sure to activate your new card immediately, following the instructions included with the card.
Can I continue to use my existing card?Yes. Until closed or deactivated, you can use your existing card as you normally would. We recommend that you continue to monitor your account during this time by using our automated telephone banking, online banking, or mobile banking tools.
What can I do to protect myself against fraudulent transactions?At First Niagara we use industry standard Fraud Prevention tools to continually monitor customer accounts for any suspicious account activity, and we proactively contact customers if we detect any suspicious transactions. We recommend that you continue to monitor your account during this time by using our automated telephone banking, online banking, or mobile banking tools.
