BUFFALO, N.Y., April 24, 2013 – First Niagara Financial Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:FNFG) and the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County are hosting a community baby shower to benefit at-risk moms. It is part of a community-wide effort to collect brand new essential baby items to help newborns have a stronger start, giving them the supplies they need for a healthy beginning.
First Niagara will collect donations at several locations including the Larkin Building in Buffalo, the Operations Center at Ridge Lea in Amherst and the Administrative Center in Lockport. The baby shower collection runs from April 24th through May 8th.
“First Niagara believes in empowering our community to Do Great Things,” said the Executive Director of the First Niagara Foundation Elizabeth Gurney. “Through this collaboration, we are bringing vital resources together to make a difference and help give Buffalo’s babies a bright start.”
According to the United Way, each year in Erie County, thousands of babies are born into poverty. Each week in Erie County, eight infants are born to women receiving late or no prenatal care.
