BUFFALO, N.Y., June 5, 2013 – The First Niagara Foundation and Habitat for Humanity will be working together to completely renovate a home located at 64 North Parade Avenue in Buffalo. Employees of the bank will be working at the house throughout the week of June 4th, to help a local family in need make their dream of home ownership a reality.
Habitat for Humanity ensures everyone has a decent place to live by providing affordable housing to families who might not otherwise be able to own a home. The houses are sold to pre-qualified families at no profit and with no interest charged while Habitat holds the mortgage. The home on North Parade Avenue is expected to be complete in October. The First Niagara Foundation is providing $15,000 in funding for Habitat for Humanity to complete the project.
“Every family deserves the opportunity to have a place they call home,” said Buford Sears, First Niagara Buffalo Market Executive. “Our team is committed to revitalizing Buffalo’s neighborhoods. We’re working with Habitat to not only build a home – but also to build hope in our community.”
Habitat for Humanity Buffalo says they currently complete anywhere from 12 to 15 houses per year, approximately 70% of them are rehabilitations of existing structures. Since 1985, they have built 242 houses in the city of Buffalo and some in Lackawanna.
