First Niagara Donates $7,500 to Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA)

Date Posted: May 07, 2013

Albany, N.Y., May 7, 2013 – First Niagara today announced its donation of $7,500 to Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA). The grant will be used to help NABA continue to offer its teen summer program for legally blind children, ages 13 to 17. The teen summer program has a large pre-vocational component during which teens complete skills interest inventories and visit with blind adult mentors and role models who talk with them about safe meal instruction, orientation and mobility training and recreational, social opportunities.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide NABA with the necessary funding for its Summer Youth Program,” said First Niagara Eastern New York Market Leader Nina Tyzik. “NABA is a tremendous organization serving a population in need in our area. This is a great program that fits well with First Niagara’s commitment to mentoring and youth.”

The mission of NABA is to assist persons who are blind or visually impaired to achieve independence and growth by offering services throughout the Greater Capital Region. NABA provides services in fourteen (14) counties of upstate New York, including Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Dutchess, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, Warren and Washington Counties.

“On behalf of NABA, I want to thank First Niagara for its contribution to our summer youth program,” said Christopher T. Burke CEO/Executive Director for NABA. “Our mission is to help individuals overcome the challenges of vision loss, enabling them to lead more productive, independent lives. First Niagara’s generous grant will help us achieve our goals for 2013.”
