W.A. (Bart) Maves, President
Mr. Maves began his career in business with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Niagara Falls in1958.
Starting as a teller, he eventually moved to Toronto and into an accounting position with the bank. In 1963
Bart moved back to Niagara Falls to begin a new career as an accounting clerk with R.C. Young Insurance Brokers.
Eventually he became a broker and moved into a sales position with the company. In 1966 Bart left R.C. Young for a
sales position with rival brokerage Morningstar-Bampfield Insurance. Seven years later Mr. Maves purchased
Morningstar-Bampfield and went on to purchase a number of other brokerages that were incorporated into the business.
Harvey Haid Insurance, Filer Insurance, Niagara Falls Insurance Brokers and Sheldon Misener Insurance were all
purchased between 1974 and 1991 and integrated into the business. In 1984 after the Niagara Falls Insurance Brokers
acquisition, Mr. Maves changed the name of the brokerage to First Niagara Insurance Brokers Inc.* to reflect the heritage
and longevity of the business. In 1989 First Niagara Insurance* purchased Read-Usher Insurance Brokers extending the
business into the Town of Niagara on the Lake.
Mr. Maves is several times a past president of the Niagara Falls Brokers Association and has been the treasurer for
that organization for over 20 years. He has sat on Broker Advisory panels for a number of Insurance Companies
including Dominion of Canada, Royal & SunAlliance and The Economical Mutual Insurance Company.
Currently Mr. Maves is President and CEO of First Niagara Insurance Brokers Inc.*, President of Riverides Inc and
